Take 5 Challenge with Totally Turquoise and Waterfall Inks

Two quick cards today for the Oak House Studio Take 5 April Challenge Something Blue.  I like to keep a selection of simple cards to hand which can be used for any occasion, especially thank you cards.  These cards are quick to make and look good in any colour.  Blue is one of my favourite colours especially the totally turquoise and waterfall pure colour chemistry inks.

This card uses totally turquoise Pure Colour Chemistry ink for the background

To make my two cards I coloured two squares of stamping card one with totally turquoise and the other with waterfall spray inks and stamped randomly with a selection of small stamps using the triple sky blue ink pad.  The daisy was die cut from a baby wipe used to mop up the blue inks, this was overstamped with small stamps using the darkest shade on the triple sky blue ink pad and added to the stamped square.  These squares were matted and layered with navy card then onto a white linen card blank.

This type of quick card is ideal for any occasion and makes a lovely gift if presented in a set with envelopes and a ribbon tied round.

How To Make An Exploding Card

Today I have a tutorial over on the papermilldirect blog showing how to make this exploding card.  If you want to find out how I made this card and what the other design team members have made this week pop over to the blog where you will find full details.

Exploding cards are relatively easy and fun to make.  The more folds the more complex the exploding part of the card.   My tutorial shows how to make an expolding insert with only seven folds, simple but effective.

Before I started folding my stamped card I made a thin paper fold diagram, I found this easy to follow having the fold lines highlighted and great to practice the valley and mountain folds needed to achieve the paper explosion.

I used papermilldirect raspberry, teal, black and ivory linen cardstock, Hero Arts large flourish and a Prima Finnabair butterfly stamp coloured with distress markers.

Here is another idea for fastening your exploding card, mount your stamped and layered panel with 3D sticky foam pads leaving a chanel for the ribbon to pass through, tie in a bow to fasten.

Although I am away at the moment I seem to be getting more crafting done than usual, hope it continues when I get home!  Back next week with some more projects.

Take 5 Splodges and Splashes

Good afternoon family, friends and followers, today I  have two cards for Oak House Studio's April Take 5 Challenge Something Blue.  For more details of the challenge visit the Oak House Studio blog.

For these cards I made some home made washi tape by stamping two strips of masking tape with two different colours and stamps.  The first with the square grid stamp in the sea blue pigment ink and the circle grid stamp in the triple sky pigment ink.

White stamping card  was lightly sprayed with totally turquoise ink and drops of waterfall ink were splashed here and there.  The second background also on stamping card was a mixture of stamping, dropping ink onto the card and flicking with a brush.

I added the tape to the backgrounds, a sentiment to both and embellished the first card with a die cut feather coloured with sea blue and sky blue pigment ink .  The backgrounds were mounted onto matching coloured card then attached to white linen card blanks, a few enamel dots were added to finish the cards.

Cream and Brown with a splash of colour

Good morning friends and followers, my DT card for papermilldirect this week is an anniversary card using cream linen cardstock and brown ink, a splash of colour was added using distress inks.

A card blank 15cm x 15cm was made with papermilldirect cream linen cardstock.  The image was stamped directly onto the cream linen card blank using sepia Archival ink, this was heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The image was coloured randomly with distress inks in abandoned coral, spiced marmalade and fossilized amber.  The sentiment was stamped with the sepia ink and heat embossed too.

The butterfly was die cut and dry embossed, I used a brayer to roll sepia ink over the raised areas of the embossing and heat embossed to highlight the butterfly wings.  The butterfly was then coloured with distress markers in abandoned coral, spiced marmalade and fossilized amber and mounted below the stamped image using 3D foam pads.

Materials used:

Archival ink in Sepia
Stampers Anonymous stamp set Classics#3
Distress inks and markers
Oak House Studio clear embossing powder
Tim Holtz/Sizzix Butterfly Duo - die and embossing folder
Sentiment was a free stamp from a magazine
