Hooray It's Your Birthday!

Hello everyone, I have been working on my family birthday cards this week and made this dog card for one of my grandsons.  This year I am determined to use some of the many stamps I have, some of which have not seen the light of day yet, and try not to give into temptation and buy more.

I got out the crazy cats and dogs stamp set so I could use a funny dog on the card and gathered together some sentiments, mixed media style stamps and some stencils.

A card blank was made with papermilldirect white linen card and the sewn circle was stamped onto a piece of white linen cut 2cm smaller than the card blank.  The little dog, which looks a bit like  my grandsons dog, was stamped in the circle and coloured with distress markers. I picked out some large sentiment stamps to help fill out the white space and stamped them in black ink.

The stamped panel was mounted onto a piece of papermilldirect post box red card to add some colour.  The card still looked very CAS for a young man's card so I stencilled the dots onto the card blank using red distress ink before adding the image panel.  The dog's nose, eyes and collar were highlighted with Glossy Accents and a few dots of blue perfect pearls added to add a little more colour.

As I had the stamps out I made another card using one of the cats, this time using a different colour and colouring the circle with a little blue and violet to make it look like a bubble.

More information on how I made the cards and the materials used can be found on the papermilldirect blog .

An Alphabet Soup Type Of Birthday Card

Hello friends, followers and family, another Friday and another Daring Cardmakers Challenge.

This week I am hosting the challenge "ALPHABET SOUP", and would like to see letters, words or numbers as the main feature of your cards.

Go over to Daring Cardmakers for further details of how to enter and see the wonderful design team creations.

I have been playing with my Geli Plate this week and the background for this card was created with acrylic paints and an alphabet stencil, a word background stamp and papermilldirect white, black and textured card.  The background was then overstamped with the words and cut  to size then matted onto black card then onto a white hemp card blank.  The star was cut from papermilldirect hopsack card, coloured and stencilled with distress ink and the word boy stamped onto it.  The birthday word die was cut from black card, the star and the word die were attached to the card with 3D sticky pads.

Here is another wordy type of card it was made for a teenage family member, I love this type of CAS card and they are so easy to make using the computer or large word stamps.

Please come and join us for the challenge, we would love to see your "Alphabet Soup" creations.

Lots of Candles - Another Year Older And Wiser

Today I have this week's Daring Cardmakers Challenge DT card.  The challenge "Lots Of Candles"  is hosted by Mirri and she wants to see candles on your cards, one or lots the choice is yours.

I found a candle stamp to use on my card, one received when  working on the Oak House Studio design team but sadly not available to buy now.  The candles were stamped in different patterns on different pieces of card and coloured with distress markers.  I made up cards using the various stamped image combinations.

The first was a row of candles which I mounted onto papermilldirect teal card.  This was mounted onto a top fold white linen DL card with 3D sticky pads and a sentiment stamped in teal blue ink.  I stamped and coloured two candles inside the card too and added a greeting.  To add a little birthday sparkle I added fine glitter to the white areas of candles.

I made a scrapling gift card using the scrap card from the A4 sheet used to make the card blank.  The candles were stamped across and down the scrapling, coloured and glitter added.  I will be using this as a gift card for the present to go with the card.

There was a cut out star on my desk which I thought would make a card for a young man whose birthday it is this month.  The candles were stamped in the center of the star, coloured and a sentiment stamped below.  I edged the star with distress ink ready to mount onto a stamped background.

Daring Cardmakers February Elemental Challenge

Hello everyone, it's Friday and we are into a new month (where did January go!!) so that means an elemental challenge over at Daring Cardmakers this week.

Joanne is hosting the challenge and has chosen this picture for you, lots of elements and colours to chose from.  You just need to pick three elements or more (colour palette being one) to use in your card design.   For more inspiration check out the design team makes HERE.

I have been sewing this week upcycling some old jeans so this picture was very appropriate, I had to use some of the denim in my card and the flowers came to mind.  I chose the denim, buttons, lace (lace stamped on pin pennant), the striped textured fabric and the colours blue, pink and grey from the picture and this is what I made.

The flowers were cut out using a Sizzix tatty florals die and put together with some hessian daisies and buttons I found in my stash.  The three pennant shapes were die cut from the three colours of card, the grey ribbed card was bought many years ago from a Papermill Shop and the beautiful pink and blue are from papermilldirect.

The grey mat, pennants and embellishments were added to a white hessian card blank and a doodles line added to match the sentiments.

We would love to see your take on this elemental challenge, you can find details and the link to enter on The Daring Cardmakers Blog.

Stamped Valentine Card With Embossed Heart

Hello everyone and welcome to my new followers.  I have a design team post today over on the papermilldirect blog today with details of how I made this card.  As February is round the corner I have been making Valentine cards and this one uses my go to colours for this type of card buff  and Christmas red card.

As I had stamps out on my desk I decided to stamp a card and added an embossed heart as an embellishment. The border stamp was masked and stamped onto to card.  These were masked and the love letter script stamped over the background.  More masking and the floral element was stamped into the top and bottom squares.

The buff card panel was edged with red distress ink and layered onto Christmas red  card.  A heart was cut from the Christmas red plain card and embossed with a floral embossing folder, this was added to the center square with 3D sticky pads.

I do like buff and red together but layered the panel onto a white hemp card blank just to make the card a little lighter.  I also added a touch of white pen to the flowers and heart.
